Immortal by J.R. Ward (Book Review)

October 7, 2014

From J.R. Ward, the #1 New York Times bestselling author who has kept readers on the edge of their seats with her phenomenal Fallen Angels novels, comes one of the most heart-stirring and eagerly anticipated events in that acclaimed series.

This is a world where sin and salvation collide. This is a world where a cynical fallen angel struggles with the seven deadly sins and seven chosen souls. With the spellbinding Immortal, the riveting series that “changed the face of paranormal romance” comes to an epic close as mankind’s reluctant savior struggles with his greatest challenge yet…time, and hearts, will tell.

Angels, demons, a battle to save all mankind from the throes of hell. Man, does this sound like a plot from Supernatural or what? Yes, I mean that in a good way because I love, love, love the show! *smiles*

Ward rounded up the series pretty damn well (Yes, folks, I read this was the end.) She made sure many people received their HEA with some surprising returns with a couple old favorites of ours. And that’s all the spoilers you’ll be getting from me. *grins*

Now as I stated above, she wrapped up the series very well BUT there was a development at the end which I assumed meant a couple of angels will be sticking around for a wee bit longer. Only time will tell what Ward has planned for these fellas. Betcha wanna know who I’m speaking of, don’t you?

If she doesn’t follow through with the teaser plot and leaves this unsettled, I will be highly disappointed. You all know how people hate when a show gets cancelled and the questions –  Who was shot? Who was the culprit? Did they survive? – gets left unanswered.

Now don’t read that much into those examples above. I’m not suggesting anyone was shot, left fighting for their life.

Interest peaked yet? Even a little? If you said yes, then my job here is done. Happy reading.

Hope Burns by Jaci Burton (Book Review)

Molly Burnett dreads returning to her hometown of Hope for her sister’s wedding, especially knowing she’ll have to endure a weekend with the one man she never wants to see again. It’s only a couple of days, so Molly will try to forget her painful past with high school sweetheart Carter Richards. Because despite the bitter memories, she still can’t forget what they once meant to each other.

But when Molly is forced to extend her stay, Carter sees this as his second chance to do things right, to start over again with the only woman he’s ever loved. This time, he isn’t going to let Molly run. Together they’re going to confront the past and put it behind them, and hope for a future as bright as the flame that still burns hot between them.

Many of us found our first loves during our years in high school. Some of us stay with him or her, but like Molly and Carter, some didn’t for some reason or another. However, if a love his strong enough, two people will find their way back together.

This is the case for Molly and Carter. They fell in love instantly but after the painful miscarriage, they pulled apart instead of together. Twelve years later, here they are once again in the same town and rekindled their love. It took a bit, many hurtful words/truths were spoken, but in the end it made them stronger. Now they have a loving future ahead of them.

If you want a story about the power of true love, this is the story for you. Molly and Carter were destined to be together and I love a tale with a HEA. Don’t you?

Losing It by Cora Carmack (Book Review)

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible– a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves her potential sexual partner alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe.

And as if if that weren’t embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier….

This is the first novel I’ve read by Cora and I am absolutely in love with her writing skills. She had a great mix of sexual tension, plot, and comedy to keep me engaged!

The sex scenes….. I laughed my ass off while reading them. I mean, seriously, who hasn’t had a few laughable moments in the bedroom. Ok, I haven’t actually snagged my earring in a curtain but I have gotten tangled up in my clothing and  zippers —- those getting stuck are definitely aggravating. But enough about me.

Cora, yeah, take a chance on her if you haven’t already. Trust me, you’ll like —- NO— love many, many moments in this wonderfully crafted tale.

The ‘Good to Go’ Series by Marie Harte (Multi-Book Review)

In A Major Attraction, Major Kyle Waters returns from a deployment and wakes up with his arms full of Olivia Cava—the woman he’s been fantasizing about for months. But will his past resurrect issues of jealousy and ruin their growing love?

In A Major Seduction, Maria Thompson has been after her best friend’s older brother since she first knew boys existed. But after years of trying and failing, she’s giving up. Except now Major Mike Cava has realized Maria is all grown up. She’s the sexy woman of his dreams, and hopefully, his future.

And in A Major Distraction, Major Brad Cava accidentally put on a sexy show for his neighbor—the gorgeous—and annoying—Genevieve, a civilian he’s forced to work with. The show flames the sparks already between them, and soon he’s falling in love. Then rumors at work breach their fragile trust. Will Brad believe in love, or succumb to his past and believe in the lies?

Despite the fact this story features military men, there are NO battle mentions and NO espionage. It is about three men who find the love of their lives.

These men and their women light the sheets on fire. Marie explores bondage play, anal play, and voyeurism. Ooo, doesn’t this sound deliciously kinky?

If you answered yes, like me, then you are going to LOVE this anthology.

The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane (Book Review)

A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton’s world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley….

And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.

Even after years of the rock and roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more…even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there’s a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!

This is the first full-length novel I’ve read by Lauren and I had mixed feelings regarding it. First of all, I want to express my appreciation for her using characters that are polar opposites of each other in regards to their career  choices. A librarian and a rock star…..can’t get more different than that.

I liked the fact she didn’t show them having all “sunny” moments during their reunion after all these years apart. We all have arguments with the ones we love and that’s all part of growing as a couple. Kudos for bringing “real life” instances into this tale. Those tiny touches make the story more alive – more relatable to a reader.

My only negative comment about this story is some chapters ended rather abruptly before moving on to the next. It read rushed as if she was unsure how to wrap it up and threw a couple lines down to get it over with. It had a disjointed feel to me.

Will I give the series another chance? I’m debating this as I type. She did tease me with enough tidbits about Ezra and Tuesday to consider another purchase.

Decisions….
Decisions……
