Rob Williams (Author), Jim Lee (Illustrator), Gary Frank (Illustrator), Ivan Reis (Illustrator), Jason Fabok (Illustrator), Philip Tan (Illustrator), Carlos D’Anda (Illustrator), Scott Williams (Illustrator)

Publication Date: March 7, 2017

Harley Quinn. Deadshot. Killer Croc. Enchantress. Captain Boomerang. Katana. They’re dangerous. They’re deadly. They’re deeply unstable. And they’re our only hope. They’re the characters from the smash-hit film and they’re here in this great new starting-point graphic novel, SUICIDE SQUAD VOL. 1: THE BLACK VAULT, as part of DC Rebirth!

Assembled by the tough-as-nails intelligence expert Amanda Waller and overseen by disgraced military genius Captain Rick Flag, the men, women and monsters of the Suicide Squad—a.k.a. Task Force X—do the jobs that are too dirty for any superheroes to soil their capes with.

Their latest mission should be easy enough: recover a powerful cosmic weapon called the Black Vault from enemy hands. The Suicide Squad always gets the job done (mostly) but this time, when the weapon’s dark influence spreads and the team is driven to madness and mayhem (more than usual), there’s only one person sane enough to save the Squad from destruction…the Clown Princess of Crazy herself, Harley Quinn!

Legendary artist Jim Lee teams up with writer Rob Williams and artists Philip Tan, Jason Fabok, Ivan Reis and Gary Frank for a new deadly Task Force X mission in SUICIDE SQUAD VOL. 1: THE BLACK VAULT! Exploding from the pages of DC’s blockbuster Rebirth event and starring the characters you love and hate from the smash-hit movie, this graphic novel is a great jumping-on point for new readers! Collects issues #1-4 and the SUICIDE SQUAD: REBIRTH one-shot.

He wishes Wrenn would stop searching down clues ahead of the police and pacify temperamental playwright Barton Reed. Barton’s play is just days away from opening in the town’s historic Baxter Theater. Amid murder, theft, or curtain calls, Wrenn’s instincts prove sharp. But it’s her stubborn one-woman approach that places her directly in the killer’s path.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

The true sign of a great murder mystery novel is the ability of an author to leave you befuddled who was the killer. Connie gave us many suspects, motives, and yet I was not completely sure I knew who was the proper prime suspect. I also  wondered how she was going to tie the murder and theft together & was impressed how thoroughly she linked the two crimes.

She also left us enough breadcrumbs for sequels: What will the future hold for Gideon and Wrenn? Have we seen the last of Elmore, Lucas and Clay? (Surely not) And what about the mysterious Gina Frawley? Will we ever learn what became of her?

So even though the villain (killer) enlightened us about why Trey had to die and details regarding the thievery at Eastwood University, readers will have have enough unanswered questions to have them coming back for another chapter in the life of Wrenn Grayson.

Well done, Connie!

Shadow’s Seduction: Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole (Book Review)

A NIGHT OF DEBAUCHERY . . .

Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend, Caspion the Tracker, comb the streets of Dacia, drunkenly seeking out pleasures of the flesh. In what should have been a typical night, they coax a bevy of nymphs to bed. To impress their females, the demon and the vampire kiss on a dare.

CHANGES THEM FOREVER . . .

Once they finally break away from their soul-searing kiss, they find themselves alone—and shaken. Had they imagined their explosive chemistry? Obstacles—ranging from a death sentence to exile in a war-torn dimension—threaten to destroy their lives . . . and the vulnerable promise in that one kiss.

HOW LONG CAN THEY RESIST THE FIRE THAT BLAZES BETWEEN THEM?

Even if Mirceo accepts Caspion as his fated mate, the seductive vampire still must convince the stubborn demon that their bond is forever. And any royal Dacian union must receive the blessing of King Lothaire, an unpredictable and savage killer. . . .

When you’re writing a book series, the last thing you want is for your readers to grow tiresome of reading the same ideas. It’s a difficult task to continue a storyline without it growing stale, repetitive and losing its appeal.

I’ve been reading KC since the start. For me, her books stand out among the crowd because she pairs the unlikeliest of couples. She doesn’t have couples immediately succumb to their desires and live HEA (happily ever after).

No, she has each pair show their strengths and weaknesses and how they are better-stronger together than apart. And yes, through this there are some bah chicka wah wah moments. Hell, this is a paranormal romance series so bring on the nakedness!

In the instance of Shadow’s Seduction, readers will most definitely see action of the lustful kind. Two men, vamp and demon, will find themselves mated and engaging in some panty-wetting scenes. There’s biting, sucking, domination, and horn licking.  KINKY! 😉

There’s also missions, laughter, heartache, and heart break.

And for the ending….

These two sexy paranormal gents are officially mates but all is not quiet. They are about to go on another mission to save Mina, Mirceo’s sister. (Cliffhanger)

Sweet Cheeks by K. Bromberg (Book Review)

An all new second-chance love story by the New York Times Bestselling author of the beloved Driven series.

It all started with the invitation. To my ex–fiancés wedding.

I should have ignored it.Thrown it away. Set it afire. But I didn’t. I replied.

With a plus one.

Enter Hayes Whitley. Mega-movie star. The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye.

When he showed up  out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding and told him he was crazy when he suggested we act like a couple to show my ex, it’s true, I could do better than him.

But I didn’t.

And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Or do we risk the chance and see what happens next?

There are few books that I finish and immediately want to start again. This is one of them.

While the beginning started off on a lull, the story really started to pick up steam and get steamy once Hayes and Saylor headed off to paradise island for her ex’s wedding. You’d think a situation where you are venturing to your ex-fiance’s wedding, a place where you’re loathed and mocked at, would be disastrous. However, Hayes made the time there memorable with his adventures, playfulness, and overall sweet nature. Love that was lost was found again.

With that said, his stardom did bring its own share of drama during their weekend away. Love was tested and almost lost again. With a battle on his hands, Hayes brought his A-game for sure via his social media posts, his romantic gifts, and (in the end) proving ACTIONS DO SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Ladies and gents, if you love romantic comedies, this is the perfect book for you. A sweet treat without the unwelcomed, pesky  calories.  😉

~~ A scene from Wild Raspberries ~~

Out in the street, ten-year old Carson Tillman from next door rode his bike in circles, watching the proceedings.

After loading Arnett’s things, Lizbeth slammed the cargo door. She turned to Beebe. “We’re ready,” she said.

Beebe made an arm gesture that gathered Arnett, Lizbeth, and Callie into a line at the foot of the drive. Carson’s bike jumped the curb. He ground it to a stop nearby. The nosy boy might have thought the ladies were posing for a send-off photograph.

A breeze kicked up Beebe’s crop of straw-colored hair so that it stood out from her head like a crayon drawing of the sun. She raised her right hand into oath-taking position, then used several upward gestures with her left to prompt the others to hoist their hands as well. Beebe recited a pledge, breaking it into five chunks, which the others repeated in unison.

“I hereby swear an oath to honesty. From this point forward, I promise to provide fully factual information and will express my feelings earnestly and without reservation.”

As all the hands dropped, Carson, a respectfully polite tattletale, his broad mouth gleaming with dental hardware, announced, “Miss Arnett had her fingers crossed.”

Lizbeth’s mouth flew open. Her gaze jumped off the boy and landed on Arnett. “How could you?”

In a teacher-to-student tone, Beebe said, “Show me your hands.” Arnett complied. “Do you swear to this honesty pledge?”

“Yes, I swear.” Arnett glared at Carson. “Are you satisfied?”

            He shrugged and pedaled away.

Chappell does a wondrous job allowing her words to speak for her characters, immersing the reader in scenes where dialogue would have typically done the trick.” ~~Maxy Awards
