Dino Ride: A Curious James Book by Jaybie D. (Book Spotlight)

Join Curious James on a mission divine,
To help a Brachiosaurus in this modern time.
In a world not built for their massive frame,
This dino needs transportation that’s not the same.

They face bumps along the way,
Though they won’t give up – no, not today.
With determination and spirit, they persevere,
Proving the journey itself is something to hold dear!

Jungle Jim’s Coloring Book for Toddlers by Pixie Publishing House (Book Review)

ntroducing our “Alphabetical Animals” coloring book for kids, featuring Jungle Jim and his animal friends! This educational and fun-filled coloring book is designed to help children learn the alphabet and develop their writing skills while they explore the wild world of jungle animals. With each page dedicated to a different letter of the alphabet and a corresponding animal, children will have the opportunity to practice writing both uppercase and lowercase letters while they color in their new jungle friends. The book is filled with delightful illustrations of the animals in their natural habitats, providing an engaging and interactive way for children to learn about the animal kingdom. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, this coloring book is a perfect addition to any child’s learning journey.
(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

This activity book has a lot going for it.

1.) It teaches children both upper and lower case letters.

2.) It spells out animal names using dotted letters so children can trace each one.

3.) Plenty of dotted lines to allow children to practice their writing skills.

4.) The images are large, with many white open areas.

5.) The animal names are perfect sight words for beginning readers.

6.) The book blends new words with familiar words, usable for several ages. Example: Money (recognizable) – uakari (possibly not identifiable)

Most workbooks only reach one age bracket. Jungle Jim’s Coloring does not. Toddlers will love coloring the images. Preschoolers can color, trace, and use the book to learn and write the alphabet. Kindergartners can do every a preschooler can, but also practice reading and recognizing the words in print.

I recommend buying this book for your home or childcare setting.

Coloring books are not just for children anymore. More and more adults are unwinding with coloring books. I see them all over the market, but none match the artistry level of Adeela Zahid (credited on the copyright page). Their realistic, hand-drawn, gray-scale images will amaze you, impress you, and you’ll almost hesitate to mark them with any color. That said, I’d be cautious when applying any color to the page. The artist creates textured images but, in the process, makes it difficult for the average person to “color” the pictures without certain focal points turning into a big blob. Mainly, I am speaking about the trees, stems, leaves, fields, and water.

When I first glanced at the stunning drawings, I envisioned how to style these portraits. I’m not an artist, but I noticed enough white open areas allowing an amateur artist to add a pop of color to every picture—for instance, the bunny chewing on the leaves of a batch of wildflowers. Using a colored pencil, I could make the petals come to life. Same for the frog sitting on the lily pad. Depending on your skill level, you can shade in some or all of the coloring sheets.

God’s Promises: Wildlife in Gray-Scale Adult Coloring Book & Journal also includes uplifting bible scriptures and dotted pages to journal your thoughts and feelings. People of faith will love reading the bible verses. They’ll warm a reader’s heart as much as the lovely drawings. In addition to the above-mentioned components, Stella Fanbosi (author) breaks down “How to Become a Citizen of God’s Kingdom,” citing the bible in multiple locations. Customers will also learn a sinner’s prayer. Since no one is without sin, this prayer is worth reading and reciting daily.

No matter your skill level, grab a colored pencil, gel pen, or paint marker and bring the wildlife images to life. “Display your amazing finished works as home decor on your walls or on social media to show your skills to friends and family.”

God’s Promises: Wildlife in Gray-Scale Adult Coloring Book & Journal would make an exceptional gift for any Christian.

Meet the Author

My love for art and spirituality began early in childhood. I remember my mother saying that if I wanted to live happily ever after, I should regard the Bible as sacred and learn from it. Here I share a simplified version of art & spirituality without the confines of religion or dogma.

Tilly and the Sleepyhead Sun by Emily Pray (Book Review)

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Reedsy Discovery. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

In the middle of a little village rested a tall clock tower, and at its tip lived a little brown owl named Tilly. Tilly maintained the clock. She polished the bell until it was shiny. The owl would sound the bell in the morning, alerting the villagers it was time to start their day. She had a significant role in making the day run smoothly, more than she ever realized.

One day, Tilly was sleepy and decided to stay in bed longer than usual. Little did she know, so did the sun. The village remained dark without the sun’s rays, and the residents stayed asleep. The town was quiet from everyone snoozing the day away. Even the birds weren’t singing.

Tilly attempted to wake the sun in several different ways. The dear, sweet owl tried to coax the sun awake with delicious, smelling foods that might make readers’ mouths water. She used loud instruments and slipped on a pair of tap dancing shoes. Nothing worked!

Tilly brainstormed ways to wake the sun, so the day could officially begin. Before you read how Tilly finally woke the sleeping sun, ask your young listeners what other ways might work. Get your child engaged in the story by having them grab maracas, pots and pans, party blowers, or any other loud instrument, and join Tilly as she tries to wake the sun using loud sounds. Have them get up and stomp or dance with Tilly.

Tilly and the Sleepyhead Sun by Emily Pray is an interactive storybook with lovely illustrations. (Artist: Emma Slawson). It has silly moments and images that’ll appeal to any size audience: home or school. I particularly loved the snoring sun and the tap-dancing owl.

I recommend Tilly and the Sleepyhead Sun to children from three to nine years of age.

Tammy the Troll: A Dance in the Forest Once Upon a Dance (Book Review)

Grab a scarf. Join the Fun. Get moving and dance along with the kids, Tammy, and Ballerina Konora in this prop-based movement story. Perfect for preschool and kindergarten kids and classrooms.

Five friends are preparing to embark on an adventure in search of Tammy the Troll, a unique little creature with spiky purple hair and a diamond in her belly button. They must gather supplies before they leave to find Tammy’s home, a hollowed-out tree at the edge of the forest. As the kids pack, Konora (a real-life dancer) gets readers up and has them stretching and squatting.

As we follow the kids on their journey, Konora encourages children to mimic her movements. When the fictional characters traverse over tree roots, up the side of the mountain, or walk across branches, Konora is there giving guidance on moves that children at home can do so they feel part of the adventure. Jumping. Spinning. Movement with scarves. Movement without. Kids will be in constant motion and love every minute of it.

The band of friends brave heights, mice, sticky spiderwebs, and spiders on their grand forest adventure. Their perseverance paid off; they found Tammy the troll. And, let me say, her hair was fabulous! But their adventure doesn’t cease after they give Tammy her special gift. No, they must still navigate the waters before leading Tammy to their home.

The fictional children were tuckered out from their long day and needed a nap. I assume many real-life children will also crave a rest, especially if they follow along with Konora’s very detailed and fun movements.

After the story’s conclusion, there are optional extension activities, such as creating a friendship dance, practicing a bridge pose, and discussing dance/ballet stories like Swan Lake.

Exercise is vital to everyone’s health. Tammy the Troll: A Dance in the Forest by Once Upon a Dance offers the chance to burn off some energy and stretch your muscles while always enjoying a fun story.

This interactive storybook is perfect for preschoolers and kindergartners.
