Burnie and Chloe are not just family; they are doggie best friends. They frequently get together at Burnie’s house for play dates. Whether they are taking a dip in the pool, exploring the outdoors, or partaking in an indoor adventure, the canine buddies always have each other’s back. They are so lucky to have each other. But things are about to change. Chloe’s owner/Ava’s brother swung by to inform the family that he got a new job and is moving to a new city. The news shocked Burnie, so he naturally had several questions. Even a human’s curiosity would cause us to question a friend or family member if they suddenly sprung news they were relocating.

A few weeks after the big move, Burnie and his family packed up and drove three hours to visit the brother and Chloe’s new home. Burnie and Chloe were super excited to see each other, and Chloe couldn’t wait to give Burnie the grand tour. Burnie was very curious about the space behind the stairwell. What he found would have me and many others running away, possibly screaming as we go. Why? Because Burnie found a spider! Okay, for a spider, it was rather cute when it smiled. Yes, you read that right. The itsy-bitsy spider smiles! Even though Webster (spider) looks friendly, I’m not sure if I would place it on my head (like Burnie did). I bet kids will have a strong opinion on this matter!

Like the other stories in The Adventures of Burnie & Chloe series, the doggie duo band together to fix a problem. In the case of Chloe Moves to a New City, their mission is to help find the lost spider (Webster) a new home, preferably outdoors. Did they succeed in their quest? I bet you know the answer to that. The final image featuring the friends posing with their tongues out is the perfect ending to the story.

Chloe Moves to a New City is a sweet story, capturing the strong bond between two canine friends. I liked the variety of body poses and facial expressions, which added depth and emotion to the characters. The backgrounds popped thanks to the vibrant wallpaper patterns and paint color choices. There were still some flat areas, but I applaud the artist’s attempt to spruce up certain rooms. The first staircase image, however, missed the mark. The left side of the staircase appears to be floating in the air towards the bottom. For the storyline, many of us can relate to a family member or friend moving away. This story may inspire children to share their experiences and feelings about a similar situation. I have one small request for the author; it may be time to give Ava’s brother a name. He’s been featured in more than one story, and I don’t recall the character being addressed by anything other than “Ava’s brother.”

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the latest story in The Adventures of Burnie & Chloe series—the heartwarming tale of friendship, coupled with the vibrant illustrations, made for a delightful read. I can’t wait to see what fun adventures await Burnie and Chloe in the next book!

Suggested reading age is 3-8 years.

Making friends can be tricky for all ages. Children get into cliques, and new members of a class, team, club, or school frequently shy away from introducing themselves, fearing rejection. Like in Charlie the City Chicken Visits a Farm, there will be times when rejection happens, but this rhyming story teaches children to persevere. One day, with patience, they will find a friend.

Charlie the chicken called the city his home. His home was loud with tall buildings, the polar opposite of the life he longed to live. One day, Charlie decided to walk to a nearby farm. Children will love the illustration of a hat-wearing chicken kicking up his foot while a couple of mice dine close by on a plate of pancakes topped with blueberries. The other drawings were also brilliantly drawn with bold color choices.

When Charlie finally arrived at the farm, he met many animals, but also a challenge. Every animal he meets ignores him, including a hen. Charlie felt like he was doing something wrong. Children who’ve experienced the new friendship woes might wonder if they are “doing something wrong” too. They might want to “give up” like Charlie almost did.

Charlie the City Chicken Visits a Farm teaches children that making friends takes patience. Also, friends come in all sizes, colors, and shapes!

Amazon lists Charlie the City Chicken Visits a Farm by Helen McKeon for listeners birth to six years. This age bracket is perfect for multiple reasons. Babies will love the colors! Toddlers can use this story to learn farm animal names and their corresponding sounds. Three and four-year-olds will adore listening to the chicken’s adventure. Finally, the simple, rhyming text is perfect for new readers (five and six-year-olds).

I recommend you share this story with your child and class. Teach them to treat others with kindness.

Around The World with Moby- My First Trip! by Muzna Kazim (Book Review)

Around the World with Moby is about an awesome 8-year-old-boy with autism who suffers from travel anxiety. Moby is always scared to explore new things or go on a vacation. His parents were concerned that Moby is missing out on many new learning experiences as he likes to just stay at home and repeat the same schedule every single day. So, they decide to take him out on a short vacation to Minneapolis, Minnesota. A trip that includes a 3-hour flight, a hotel-stay and exploring the city of Minneapolis. The parents prepared for his trip by implementing helpful tools to cope with his fear and anxiety.

Will these tools help Moby stay calm?

Will they enable him to adapt to a brief change in his daily schedule?

Will he have fun?

Let’s find out in the story.

Adults have anxiety about traveling, so it’s not a far leap to think children would suffer from the same issue.

In Around The World with Moby- My First Trip! by Muzna Kazim, we meet Moby, an 8-year-old with autism who fears traveling. Moby’s Mama tries to soothe his fears. She tells him the trip to Minneapolis is only temporary. She gives him a calendar so he can prepare for the upcoming event. She read him stories about plane rides. They watch videos together. His Mama’s thoughtful and helpful ideas ease Moby’s fear and anxiety. When they reach the airport, Mama has more tricks to help her autistic child through this sensory-overloading adventure. Now, Moby’s Mama wasn’t the only one helping Moby feel calm during the adventure. His Dad was there, discussing the mechanics of the plane, which kept Moby’s mind at peace. What a blessed family!

The excursion was not smooth sailing. Bumps in the road will occur whether a child is on the autism spectrum or not. However, suppose they are, Around The World with Moby- My First Trip! gives parents valuable tools to help their child prepare for a trip, helps a child handle new experiences and challenges, and even shows families all the fun you can have in Minneapolis. There are even pages dedicated to when they came home. The ‘after the trip” events were just as important as the ‘let’s prepare for the trip’ sections. You don’t have to have an autistic child to benefit from any idea in the book. All children feel stress over new situations!

Around The World with Moby- My First Trip! by Muzna Kazim is a remarkable book. The illustrations by Rabindra Nath Barman were big, bold, and colorful and elevated an already fantastic story.

I recommend that families and schools add this book to their libraries.
