The ‘Worth the Fight’ Series” by Michele Mannon (Multi-Book Review)

Logan Rettino never imagined she’d fall so far. Dropped by her ex on national TV, she’s gone from prima ballerina to ring card girl, reduced to revving up the crowds before MMA bouts. However distasteful she finds her new job, it pays well…and she needs the money if she’s ever going to rebuild her life. Promised a huge bonus if she can convince a brooding, gifted welterweight to keep fighting, she’ll do whatever it takes to earn his trust.

Keane O’Shea is unbeatable in the octagon. A former marine, he fights with a ruthlessness no gym jockey can match. He knows his brutal strength is too much for the delicate ex-ballerina, regardless of how fascinating he finds Logan’s tight dancer’s body. But one private performance and he’s drawn to her in a way he can’t—or won’t—resist.

As Logan discovers the heartbreaking truth that lies beneath this handsome warrior’s rage, she’ll need to forfeit everything she thought mattered for the one thing that matters the most: saving Keane from himself.

Late-night shock jock Sophie Morelle has been fired, dumped by her network after an embarrassing incident cost them big bucks. But she knows just how to get back on her feet—by filming a raw, gritty documentary about MMA fighters, starring the hottest welterweight around. The only problem? He’s the one responsible for ruining her life.

MMA-champion-turned-model Caden Kelly is hell-bent on reestablishing himself as the best fighter in the country. He’d been on a roll, too, until that loudmouth reporter hit him in the head with a camera on national TV. The headaches he’s suffered since are nothing compared to the one he gets when she shows up, seeking an exclusive. That Sophie’s gorgeous is undeniable…but she’s also the most infuriating woman he’s ever met.

Stepping into the ring with Caden Kelly is not for the faint of heart, but Sophie’s never been the delicate type. This champion may have finally met his match—both in and out of the bedroom.

Bracken Kelly is a lot of things. A ball buster. A hardass. An undercover narcotics detective who’s gotten in too deep with a biker crew and landed himself in big trouble with Internal Affairs. Posing as a trainer to clear his name and uncover the methamphetamine being run out of Reno’s toughest fight club is the easy part—Bracken’s been fighting for half his life. Convincing a female featherweight with a smart mouth and a hotter body to let him train her? That complicates things.

Huntley Wittaker left a lot behind when she moved to Reno—her family business, her overprotective brothers, her psychopathic ex-boyfriend and her Southern Belle persona. In Nevada, she can be whatever she wants to be. And what Huntley wants to be is a fighter, even if her punch stinks. All she needs is the right trainer. The domineering brute of a biker who answers her ad isn’t it, but he’s all she’s got.

Bracken has a job to do and this time, he plans on succeeding, even if that means lying his way to getting sweaty with Huntley outside of the ring. But as he and Huntley grow closer and lies turn into truths, they’ll be faced with a different kind of fight—one neither of them is prepared for and one that threatens to tear them apart forever.

I was highly impressed with the MMA terminology Michele used before the start of each chapter. It showed the dedication behind the story/series and the love she has for the sport.

For those not familiar with MMA, it will shed some light on the sport. For those who are fans of the octagon (like myself), it was an added bonus feature to an already stellar read.

Now, let’s meet the cast and crew of the octagon. Shall we……

If you are looking for a man or woman with great stamina, then look no further. With their cardio regime, power and agility are a must in the ring and out of the ring….. well, my kinky ones, it’s a very titillating quality in a bed partner too.

Suddenly, the energizer bunny slogan is buzzing around my head. You know the one —-> Keeps Going, Going, Going and ………. *wicked grin*

In Knock Out and Tap Out, two fighters (men) weren’t looking for love. Ghosts (demons) from their past made them steer clear of anything resembling a commitment. However, you all know they get their HEA. Yeah, no brainer there. However, the road to HEA was an intriguing tale.

Knock Out: For the most part, O’Shea was an ass. Of course, his behavior was explained and I could sympathize with him but still, Logan took quite an emotional beating. He might have the bigger muscles, but for the most part, I found her the stronger character. O’Shea did redeem himself in a major, romantic way at the end of the story. I only wish he did it sooner. I was actually tired of watching her chase/beg/plead for him.

My only other complaint about Knock Out was the juvenile phrases. Example: Logan saying “Splitting leotards” –  “Twist my tutu” – “Leaping leotards”. I’m not much of a curser but even I was thinking, Fucking curse already.

Tap Out: We’ve all heard reports of drug use in correlation with any sport. So, the plot was not off the mark at all. For that, I give this story an A. What made this story get an A++ rating was the chemistry, the playfulness, between Caden and Sophie. I absolutely adored their video messages to each other. Romance at its finest moment.

Complaint: I felt Sophie’s past issues weren’t resolved. MM brought up Hank Cawfield multiple times but her demons were pushed aside to make room for Caden’s. For me, the brush off was noted and not appreciated.

Out for the Count: Yes, MM focused her attention on a female fighter. This pleases me to no end. 🙂 While the men of the octagon are badass, this tale reinforces the knowledge women are a force to reckon with as well. Trainer, undercover cop, DEA agents, rogue cop, gangs…. This story is a thrill ride from beginning to end. Loved it!

And way to kick some major ass, Huntley! Oh yeah, Bracken wasn’t so bad either. *winks*

Complaint: Again, we find another woman throwing themself at a man. Why? It’ not needed.

For this repeated offense, my score went from a 5 to a 4.

The ‘Love Under the Big Sky’ Series by Kristen Proby (Multi-Book Review)

“Loving Cara”

Josh King is an expert at running his family’s multi-million dollar ranch in Montana. (And all that outside manual labor has done wonders for sculpting his six-foot-three body, too.) But as sure footed as he is when it comes to the ranch, Josh doesn’t know anything about how to deal with an adolescent boy—so when his twelve-year-old nephew, Seth, is dropped off on his doorstep, looking scared and acting surly as hell, Josh knows he needs help in straightening him out.

Cara Donovan loves her quiet life as a teacher in her sleepy hometown, so she jumps at the chance to make a little money over the summer as a tutor. But when she learns she’ll be teaching Josh King’s nephew, Cara’s sweet summer job gets a little bit hotter. Cara tries to focus all her attention on tutoring Seth, but Josh proves to be a delicious distraction, while Josh’s memories of the shy girl he once teased in high school are nothing like the beautiful woman he’s facing now. Can he persuade her that there’s more between them than a summer fling?

“Seducing Lauren”

Now that his best friend, Josh, has happily settled down with his true love on a Montana ranch, small-town lawyer Ty Sullivan starts thinking that maybe single life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. And when Lauren Cunningham’s no-good ex-husband comes after her for an unexpected trust fund, Ty steps in to protect her. But soon he can’t help but think of her as more than a client. Lauren’s in no mood to jump into another relationship, so how can Ty convince her that her mistake wasn’t getting married, but marrying the wrong guy?

“Falling for Jillian”

Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara.

But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zach, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zach is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?

Bonus Read!

With Kristen Proby, ski slopes are quite delightful. Grace Douglas is sure she’ll never learn to ski, but instructor Jacob Baxter could teach her lessons of a different kind…

There are a few crucial items I take into consideration when I decide on a rating and/or if I will purchase another book from an author.

A.) Are the characters relatable? Likable? Great Chemistry?
B.) Is the plot idea new, unique in any way? Thought out/delivered seamlessly or almost seamlessly?
C.) Does the story make me ‘feel’ things?
D.) When I read the last page, do I feel let down?
E.) Would I ever read it again?

With this series, my answers to the above questions are yes, yes, yes, no and yes.

With each of three primary stories above, I found myself remembering things from my past – some good and some not.

Examples:

Like Cara, I am self-conscious about my body. Yes, I dealt with the ‘mean girls’ too. Most of you can relate or know someone who can. Also like Cara, most of my adult life has been teaching and cultivating our future leaders’ minds. Teaching is a hard, yet rewarding job.

As for Lauren and Jill, I, too, have exes I wish I never met. Of course, none of my exes were as loco as Lauren’s. Zack (Jill’s man) also had a doozie of an ex-wife. Bitch be crazy!!!!! Her mothering skills made me see red. And that’s why I gave question C.) a yes. *smiles*

As for the bonus read, I wasn’t overly impressed by it and I don’t believe you have to read it to fully enjoy the series. However, by all means, pick it up. It was an okay read.

Because You Are Mine by Beth Kery (Book Review)

41zd5qcd2vl

The moment Francesca and Ian met, the attraction was mutual, an exquisitely physical charge that ignited between them. To Ian, she was the kind of woman he couldn’t resist. She was a true innocent. To Francesca, he was the kind of man she feared and desired—dark, extreme, commanding, and forbidden. What happened between them couldn’t be ignored—only indulged, evolving into an inescapable bond.

From a private jet to an interlude in Paris, from a daring tryst in a public museum to the intimacy of a luxury hotel, Francesca and Ian come together whenever the need is aroused. But as their relationship grows more intense, Francesca discovers something about Ian—and herself—that forever changes the game and the players. It’s something they never expected, something that sends both their lives spinning deliriously out of control . . .

The similarities between this book and Fifty Shades of Grey were uncanny.

1.) Ian: billionaire, Dom, battling childhood trauma – same as Christian.
2.) Francesca: innocent/naive virgin who engages in an “agreement” to “please” him – same as Ana.
3.) He told her upfront it was all about sex and not to fall in love. Guess what, she did. No surprise there.
4.) He didn’t sign on to fall in love with her but guess what, he does.
5.) Both characters had play rooms.
6.) Both used their money/power to help further their woman’s career.
7.) Similar scenes when they didn’t know the whereabouts of their woman.

I could go on but I won’t.

What I can/will say is this…… Because You Are Mine had a lot more kink. Way more!!

The ‘One Night of Passion’ Series by Beth Kery (Multi-Book Review)

Irish film director Rill Pierce fled to the tiny, backwoods town of Vulture ‘s Canyon, seeking sanctuary and solitude after a devastating tragedy. Once, his raw sex appeal and sultry Irish accent made women across the globe swoon. Now, he’s barely recognizable…
But Katie Hughes, his best friend’s sister, is not the type of woman to give up on a man like Rill. She blazes into Vulture’s Canyon determined to save him from himself. Instead, she finds herself unleashing years of pent-up passion. In a storm of hunger and need, Katie and Rill forget themselves and the world. But will Rill’s insatiable attraction to Katie heal his pain—or will it just feed the darkness within him?

John Corcoran loved the isolation of the Shawnee National Forest with the crisp spring air, the sounds of nature, and the bracing scent of pine. Isolation is what movie star Jennifer Turner craved as well, an escape that only a weekend hike, a long and blissful distance from Hollywood, could provide.

Yesterday, they were strangers—until a fateful accident, deep in the forest and far from civilization, throws them together and plunges them both into darkness. For Jennifer it is as unnerving as the night itself, trapped in such close quarters with a man as mysterious as John. He is alpha: bold, rough, and masculine, but with a scent of firewood and spice she finds intoxicating.
In the dark, Jennifer’s nightmares spring to life. The only way to vanquish them is by submitting to blind, naked need. Now, as intimately close as a man and a woman can be, they find themselves alone, battling fear and vulnerability. Only an unexpected passion will comfort them—a sensual, raw experience from which neither is certain they want to be rescued.

Aussie playboy, world traveler and landscape photographer Chance Hathoway recognizes a miracle of nature when he sees it. He comes upon her unaware, swimming in the nude. Camera in hand, his instinct is to capture her ripe, naked abandon. But he longs to possess more than just her image…
When Sherona Legion suddenly discovers that she’s being watched at her most vulnerable she’s surprised at her reaction. It’s not embarrassment or anger. It’s pure, unabashed arousal. She likes it—enough so that she’s willing to take an unprecedented risk with the sexy photographer.

Thrilled at having the exhibitionist in her awakened, she agrees to Chance’s offer to pose for a series of nude photographs—stimulating tableaus of bondage. It leads Chance and Sherona to intimate and unparalleled experimentation. But how much is Sherona really ready to give to a complete stranger? And how much more can Chance take?

It’s not often you’re hired to paint a body tattoo—and what a body—on a total stranger at a Hollywood film set. A reserved and careful art teacher, Joy would never forget it. In a rare fit of raw desire she gave herself completely, knowing she’d never see him again, or ever repeat such a shameless, naked impulse.
Little did she know, the man with whom she shared that lightning bolt of lust was star Everett Hughes. For Everett, women and sex came as easily as fame. But how could he hope to convince the guarded Joy that beneath the hard body and sexy façade of celebrity was a real man who wanted only one, real woman?

In the heat of an intoxicating affair, Everett endeavors to break down her barriers, gain her trust, and expose himself as the real deal. But can Joy do the same, and reveal to him the vulnerable woman who longs to be loved, wanted, and desired forever?

Former Army intelligence officer Seth Hightower may work with the Hollywood elite as a special effects makeup artist, but he’s learned the hard way to keep fame obsessed starlets at arm’s length. Only one woman ever tempted him to break his rules about dating actresses—and she left him with the memory of one night of uninhibited passion and a lifetime of what-ifs.

Hollywood “It” girl Gia Harris is used to being in the spotlight—and avoiding it when necessary. After she witnesses a heinous crime, she knows testifying is the right thing to do, even if it is in the midst of a media circus. But when things heat up and Gia is in danger she needs to avoid prying eyes and the rabid, long arm of the media. Seth’s special skills and knowledge of disguise make him the perfect person to keep her famous face out of the news, but their history makes him the last person she wants to be alone with. He’s far too tempting—and now, far too close…

As Seth conceals Gia and steals her away from a rabid public, they can’t ignore the blistering attraction between them. And when they give in to their cravings, they reveal more about themselves than either of them has ever laid bare before…

Attention erotic readers, this series will definitely be to your liking. It has everything your sexy hearts desire.

– exhibitionism
– anal play
– bondage
– spankings
– Dom/Sub scenes
– sex-play (roleplaying)
– toys

All the above and a plot weaved in too!

If I know you, you’re itching to get your hands on this series for sure. Maybe even try out a few of the scenes with your significant other.

Enjoy, my wicked friends. *winks*

The ‘Hot SEALs’ Series by Cat Johnson (Multi-Book Review)

(Hot SEALs #1)

Ten years of dedication to the Navy taught SEAL Jon Rudnick one thing—he’s not afraid to risk life and limb for his country. But when navigating military red tape begins to present more challenges than the enemy it makes Jon question his future. So does Alison Cressly, the woman he can’t get out of his head. When Ali’s life is threatened and military rules won’t allow him to intervene, Jon decides it’s time to take back control.

(Hot SEALs #2)

Zane Alexander was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but the rebellious bad boy traded it, along with his share of the family fortune, for a Navy SEAL trident and freedom from his controlling father.

Ten years later, Zane’s teammates are depending on him to secure the startup capital they need to open their security company and he’s gambling on his skills at covert operations to get it. For a million dollars he’ll fake interest in Missy Greenwood, the Senator’s daughter his father wants him to date in exchange for the investment.

When Missy is kidnapped and Zane and his team are sent to Nigeria to rescue her, there’s no more faking it when the danger and the emotions turn very real.

(Hot SEALs #3)

As a combat hardened Navy SEAL, Thom Grande has fought terrorism around the globe, but he can’t fight is his ex-wife. Or her lawyer. Or the alimony payments. Just when he thinks his life can’t get any worse, bad luck smacks him up side the head—literally. Now he’s got a traumatic brain injury and can’t remember his own name. The good news? He can’t remember his ex-wife or the woes she’s causing him either.
Virginia Starr has the worst luck ever with romance. But maybe her luck is changing because one hell of a hot man just showed up at her door in the middle of the night. One problem—he can’t remember anything, including who he is. The more Ginny sees, the more she realizes, that might not matter all that much.

(Hot SEALs #4)

Retired SEAL Chris Cassidy knows the bro code—no messing around with teammates’ sisters. However, Chris never was one for following rules. Besides, his teammate Rick’s gorgeous sister Darci is worth breaking the rules for.

Darci Mann is tired of being alone. Since Zane, the bad boy SEAL she formerly had a crush on, fell in love with someone else and her best friend Ali found her own happy ending Darci’s feeling her single status extra keenly. Though she suspects her brother’s buddy Chris would be willing to change her status . . . if she decides to let him.

When a routine assignment turns deadly and Chris switches from charming joker to capable trained warrior willing to kill or die to save Darci’s life, she might have to reevaluate her feelings about the perpetual bachelor and her own future.

The premise of the series was very intriguing. I admit, between the covers and the synopsis of the stories, I purchased the entire set. However, the potential for a great series didn’t occur. For me, Cat seemed to drag the stories along until the final chapters. Then, I felt she hurried up the tales to end it. Too quickly in my book.

Examples:

Night with a SEAL: Jon doesn’t stay in contact with Ali after they have sex and she gives him a goodbye blow job but after she’s held hostage at the bank, he now wants her. Again, the declaration happens at the end. Talk about Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am. Why did she have to take him back after he treated her so coldly? Ever hear of playing hard to get. SHEESH!

Saved by a SEAL: Another book featuring a man giving a woman the brush off only to have the heroine (or in this case, damsel in distress) take him back without batting an eye. I know Missy had a crush on him for years but, seriously, let him work a little bit to prove he won’t hurt her again.

SEALed by Midnight: Thom shows up at Virginia’s barn with amnesia and she welcomes him into her “home”. After a single PG night together, he wakes up with his memory intact, returns to his team (without her knowledge), and then ventures back to her. Suddenly he doesn’t remember or care why he avoids relationships. One night and BAM he wants a future with a woman he’s only known a couple hours. I call FOUL!  He takes her to meet his parents on day two together and she agrees to try the long distance thing. Again, I say FOUL. Wouldn’t you want to be close to a person during the honeymoon stage? As a reader, I couldn’t find this believable or how he suddenly got over his fears of the bitch ex. How desperate is she for a man that she’d agree to this. He’s basically a freaking stranger.

This story didn’t seem plausible in the least. The characters didn’t click for me.

Kissed by a SEAL: Chris is jealous of the attention Darci gives to Zane; her attraction to him. However, during the last pages of the book, he seems to forget how she’s wanted Zane all this time. He doesn’t address it at all. WTH. I know he wanted her for years but wouldn’t any sane person wonder/question if her heart still belongs to another man. No, in this case, Cat has the couple talk for about 5 minutes, announce they are together to his brother and hers, then they begin shagging. Come on, really!

So much potential……

Man, I hate writing a bad review. I like to say something positive since I know the time/love/dedication writer’s place during the creative process. With that said, Chris was a total lovable guy. His humor made him a likable character. All the “cast” were likable in their own way.
