Brazen by Maya Banks (Book Review)

Jasmine left the Sweetwater Ranch and the Morgan brothers, no longer able to bear the painful dilemma of loving them both. After a year away in which she gains new perspective, she returns home with one goal. To make Seth and Zane Morgan hers.

Jaz may have left an innocent girl, but she’s returned a beautiful, sensual woman. Seth and Zane aren’t prepared for the full on assault she launches and each are battling an attraction they’ve fought for years. She wants them both, but Seth has no intention of sharing his woman. It’s up to her to change his mind because she can’t and won’t choose between two men she loves with equal passion. For her, it’s all or nothing.

I think Maya’s intention was to portray Jaz as a strong woman who’ll do anything to acquire the loves of her life. However, I didn’t see her that way. I found Jaz to be needy, desperate, and (sorry to say) rather pathetic. For me, this story was a big miss.

Positive note: I’m glad Jaz overcame her fear of water.

Quarterback Draw by Jaci Burton (Book Review)

Grant Cassidy knows how to be a football star—flash that dazzling smile, throw the winning pass, get the girl. But while the hot quarterback loves the game and the lifestyle, no woman has come close to catching his heart. Then he matches wits with a smart, gorgeous model, and Grant finds himself wanting more than a fling.

Supermodel Katrina Koslova might live in a world of glitz and camera flashes, but she works hard to provide for the family that relies on her. She doesn’t have time for fun—much less a boyfriend—but Grant seems determined to be the exception to Katrina’s rule.

Their explosive chemistry is undeniable, but Katrina’s afraid to let go and rely on anyone but herself. Grant intends to ease her fears and prove he’s a man of style and substance.

I can sum up my feelings on this story using words starting with the letter “F”………

– FUNNY AND FUN
– FLIRTY
– FABULOUS
– FLAWLESS
– FREAKING FANTASTIC!

Beautiful Redemption by Jamie McGuire (Book Review)

No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.

Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.

Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.

In the second installment of the Maddox Brothers books, experience firsthand the mysterious world of the elusive Thomas Maddox, and how good love can be when you’re not the first, but the last.

—-> Review <—-

Man, I hate to speak negatively about a story but WTBH! I can’t imagine an FBI office running/behaving in such an adolescent manner. I swear, these agents behaved like high schoolers….. No, scratch that. They behaved like middle schoolers.

I’m sorry but I was sorely let-down.

Since I hate to leave a review on a less than stellar note, I will say Val is my type of gal. I’d hang out with her in a heartbeat even if she could basically read my thoughts. 🙂

Ripped by Katy Evans (Book Review)

A ripped rock star with attitude. An ex-girlfriend with a reckless plan.

Pandora assumed getting her heart broken by her bad boy ex could only happen once–until Mackenna Jones comes back to town for the biggest concert of his career. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about the Crack Bikini tour and it’s destined to be a huge hit.

Oh, it’ll be a hit alright–when Pandora comes out swinging. She and her friend Melanie are determined to humiliate him onstage. But when they’re caught by security and her ex is summoned, Mackenna decides not to press charges if she’ll join him on tour and follow certain conditions–rules designed to give him the upper hand and keep her in close contact with him once again. Soon, the passion they once shared is reignited, and no matter how much Pandora wants to hate him, her hard exterior starts to crack.

And worse: Mackenna knows it, too. But even Mackenna doesn’t know everything…

Review

Like Pandora and Kenna, we all have done things in our lives we regret. We’ve hurt someone and wish we could undo the past or at least have the opportunity to make amends. Luckily for these two, they did get their second chance – even though it was six years in the making.

For me, I found myself relating to Pandora’s personality. I’m a little spunky, closed off at times due to my upbringing, but when I let my walls down……watch out.

See, I think that’s what makes this a great, memorable story. I saw myself as Pandora, minus the goth look and pink stripe. *smiles*

In a nutshell, her characters come across as “real”.

It’s what drew me to Katy’s stories and has me returning with each new release. I think after you read one of her stories, she will become a staple on your bookshelf too.

Truth or Dare by Lori Foster (Book Review)

Three best friends find this is one game you might never outgrow . . .

Satisfy Me – Asia Michaels and her friends find themselves tantalized by a quiet new arrival in their small town–and by its possibilities. One thing leads to another as truth leads to dare, and Asia’s in the arms of a man who gives her answers to all of the questions she could never ask . . .

Indulge Me – Shy Becky Harte has a private wild side. But she never thought she’d run into a secret crush like George while buying some rather surprising items. George is more than intrigued at her purchases and would love to show the blushing Becky a thing or two. But it’s George who becomes the student when Becky starts calling the shots . . .

Drive Me Wild – Assertive Erica Lee is used to having the upper hand in business, her love life–everything. On a dare, she boldly approaches hunky, mischievous Ian Conrad with a scandalous proposal. Ian isn’t intimidated in the least by Erica–and he’s been hoping for just this opportunity. Seems like Erica might have finally met a man who can keep up with her . . .

I rather enjoyed how the three women challenged each other to a DARE for sexual satisfaction but only had the tables turn on them – quite deliciously, in fact.

And to think men say women are the ones who like to play games. Well, this collection proved that isn’t the case. *grins*

My only complaint was the love factor in the relationships seemed rather rushed. However due to them being short stories, I guess it was to be expected.

With that said, each story was sexier than the last and I was hooked from the get go to the bitter end.
