Unbelievable by Lori Foster (Book Review)

JUNE 29, 2010

Fantasy

Brandi really means it when she says “Oh, you shouldn’t have” to her sister’s outrageous birthday gift—a five-day dream vacation to a lovers’ retreat…lover included. Just what is she going to do in paradise with sexy stranger Sebastian Sinclair? Anything and everything she wants.

Tantalizing

Josie Jackson was growing tired of a constant stream of yawninducing blind dates, courtesy of her dear, meddling sister. But Nick Harris wasn’t the stuffy, straitlaced workaholic that Josie had come to expect. In fact, he was just the opposite—tall, dark and ready to give little Miss Josie Jackson a night to remember.

In both stories, the couples fell for each fast and neither couple opened up to the feelings right away. But isn’t that the way in real life (at times)? One person (or both) are too afraid to own up to their feelings for fear of rejection, nerves, etc.

Even though I liked the major players in the two stories, I have to say without Gramps part in “Tantalizing”, I think I would’ve had enjoyed it as much. That old man was a sly fox who still had “game”. Oh yeah, Gramps “got his groove back”. 🙂

The Troublemaker Next Door by Marie Harte (Book Review)

When Flynn McCauley meets Maddie Gardner, sparks fly. She hates men. He’s not into relationships. She lost her job. He fixed her sink—but that’s not all he wants to fix. When a ride home turns into a lot more, Maddie and Flynn decide to keep things strictly casual. Strictly sexual. They won’t date. And they end up not dating…a lot. But soon Flynn wants more from the wary redhead. If he can just keep her distracted long enough to burrow under her skin, Flynn might convince Maddie they have a shot at real happiness. That’s if Maddie can overcome her past to take a chance on the future.

This is my first time reading anything by Marie and I can say (without any doubts) I LOVE HER WRITING SKILLS!

I laughed my tush off watching the McCauley brothers interact. And little Colin, he was just way too cute for words. I can’t wait for Karma to catch up to Brody for creating a devious little con man. When he has kids of his own, the uncles are sure to make sure his kids give daddy hell. Payback is a bitch, Brody!

HA!

As for Flynn and Maddie — Dayum! For a couple who aren’t technically a couple, they sure sizzled every time they got near other. The sex scenes were deliciously HAWT – bondage, BJ’s in vehicles, sex in back room of a club, phone sex, and the constant teasing of each other.

I can’t say how much I loved book one in the series. Yes, I already preordered book 2-4. *big smile*

Nauti Enchantress by Lora Leigh (Book Review)

When Dawg Mackay made his four half-sisters part of his family, he vowed that he would care for and protect them with everything he had. But what happens now that the girls are all grown up? The Mackay girls are on the loose, and Somerset County will never be the same…

Lyrica Mackay has wanted tall, handsome Marine Graham Brock for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, Graham only sees her as his friend Dawg Mackay’s “baby sister.” Or so she believes. The truth is, the fiery party girl stirs something in Graham no female ever has. But Graham, like everyone in Somerset County, knows that trouble stalks the Mackays like bears track honey, and when a Mackay runs as hot as Lyrica does, someone’s bound to get burned.

Then Graham discovers that Lyrica’s wild side is just a cover for a frightened and vulnerable woman who needs something true and genuine, something only Graham can offer. But surrendering his heart to Lyrica exposes them both to her shocking past—and a sinister secret that, once exposed, could destroy their only chance at happiness and shake the Mackay family to its core.

~Brief Thoughts~

Action….action….and more action!

Yup, this latest installment was jammed packed full of heat. And as for the plot, it didn’t get lost or felt unfinished/rushed.

But the real kicker that makes me itch to read the next Nauti Girl’s story and NOW was the last three lines of the epilogue. Talk about a cliffhanger!

Fans of her series, I bet you’re dying to read the book now. <evil cackle>

A Perfect Storm, What Chris Wants, & Bare It All by Lori Foster (Multi-Book Review)

APRIL 1, 2012

Spencer Lark already knows too many secrets about Arizona Storm, including the nightmare she survived and her resulting trust issues. But in order to expose a smuggling ring—and continue avenging his own tragic past—the bounty hunter reluctantly agrees to make Arizona a decoy. Yet nothing has equipped him for her hypnotic blend of fragility and bravery, or for the protective instincts she stirs in him.

Arizona wants to reclaim her life, which means acting as bait to lure the enemy into a trap. Sure it’s dangerous, especially with a partner as distractingly appealing as Spencer. But as their plan—and their chemistry—shifts into high gear, Arizona may discover there’s an even greater risk in surrendering her heart to a hero….

Review
I love stories featuring strong women and Lori blended Arizona’s strong and vulnerable moments beautifully.

As for Spencer, it takes an equally strong man to swallow his dominant side and let a woman take charge – personally and professionally.

And after reading this installment, you will see he thoroughly enjoyed giving up control in the bedroom. Out of the bedroom, he is definitely learning to adjust and for that, he has earned my respect as a character.

For the villain, I think you’ll be surprised the twist Lori threw at us. He’s not just crazy….he’s white coat crazy.

Review

I’ve been waiting for Chris and Matt to finally get together and my only regret, their story was WAY TOO SHORT!

Now, it did have sweet moments but I wanted more sexy moments. They only shared a couple smooches. Compared to the love fests in the other stories, I felt a bit let down.

Review
Yes folks, “Bare It All” marked the end of the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series (for now). At least, I hope it’s for now. I really want this series to continue.
Why?
Well, the answer is simple. Lori mixed heat and suspense masterfully. It kept me engaged and had me flying through the pages.
Alice from “Trace of Fever” is the main female star in this series.
FYI – Trace made quite an entrance in this story. Love him!

Oh, I also adore Rowdy and Dash. No doubt about it – I am definitely buying the Love Undercover series ASAP!

Mike still wasn’t over his ex-wife’s betrayal, and when Taryn found out Mike was a cop she wanted to run all the way back to Connecticut and never look back, but she couldn’t… Sitting outside his home late at night she watches him fight against his demons. Demons she already had too much experience with firsthand.

When Mike finally admits there is no way to outrun his demons, Tayrn knows she’ll do anything, or be anything, to help Mike find his way back.

Quick Thoughts

This story marks my first taste of Amy’s writing skills and I have to say –  this chick knows how to create a story that keeps you turning the pages. The characters were likable and at no point did I find the story dragging. In fact, I finished it the same day I picked it up – couple hours later actually. It was fun, flirty, and just all around a great read. Good job, Amy!

Gabby James didn’t have the idyllic childhood many in her little hometown of Renlend, Kansas had. High school was a living hell, but when she graduated she couldn’t bring herself to leave Renlend. The town was her prison, but her family’s bookstore, The Looking Glass, was her one true love. It was the place she could run to, and escape the prying eyes of the ones who taunted her.

Shane Compton was a literary agent in one of the most prestigious publishing houses in New York City. He found no greater rush than finding the next big talent, someone who could take the written word and turn it into an art form. In the span of one rude phone call Shane was drawn into the mystery of just who the fiery new author from Kansas was. When everyone else in the office refused to deal with her, Shane willingly accepted the challenge. There was no logic to the madness, but every time he had contact with her, she drove him wild.

Gabby tried every trick in the book to keep Shane at arm’s length, but he had made good on his promise to come to Kansas. He wanted to pull her out of anonymity, he wanted her in the public eye. Now here he stood, on the sidewalk in front her bookstore, and one look told her he was everything she was afraid he’d be. Too bad she was anything but who he thought she was.
Gabby quickly discovers Shane has more on his mind than just books and with a little help from an ornery matchmaker, he shows her a whole new life through her looking glass.

Quick Thoughts

I think most people, at one or another, have been bullied in some form or fashion. That is why this story will strike a cord with people. In other words, I can see people seeing themselves as Gabby (to some degree).

After I finished this story, two sections stood out from the rest.
1) The letter to Gabby. (Yup, not gonna elaborate.)
2) The final altercation between Gabby and her numero uno bully. All I can say is….. “YOU GO GIRL!”
