Surrender: Coalition Mates 4 by Sarah Marsh (Book Review)

Do you ever wonder if there is other life out there in the Universe? Do you ever fantasize what that life may be like? What they might look like or the planets they might live on? How similar or different they might be from us?

The fourth book in my Coalition Mates series, Surrender, is all about confronting your past and your fears. You’d think that being abducted by aliens would scare any woman, but Sally is prepared to deal with that….it’s when one very sexy alien asks her to give something that she’s vowed never to give again that things get interesting!

Seduce me with words.

Inspire me with passion.

Blind me with longing.

Break me with need.

Bind me with love

Sally Owens was content to spend her life hiding in plain sight, as long as no one got too close or tried to wrestle the reigns away from her that is…

When she goes out for a night on the town to troll for the new Mr. Right Now, getting kidnapped and shipped out into space was NOT what she had in mind. But above all else Sally is a survivor and she soon comes up with a plan to thrive in this new world.

Arkenon Quinn, Courtesan Guild Master on the planet of Sirus, is informed that one of the new human refugees wants to join the Courtesan Guild and he was of course curious. However, when he meets the audacious and beautiful Sally he finds himself signing up to be the one to mentor her against his better judgement. What he could never have anticipated was how quickly this fascinating creature would steal his heart and force him to do something he’s never had to do before- chase a female.

Will Sally’s painful past keep her from finding a future with the man who’s like no other she’s ever met? Or will she have the strength to place her body and soul in Arkenon’s extremely capable hands?

“Are you cold, love?” he said in a low whisper as he ran the back of his fingers lightly up her arm, leaving goose bumps in their wake.

Sally had learned in one of her classes that Sirotians had a type of pheromone control that was frequently used in their seductions. Initially she’d disregarded the possible effects, thinking that she had superior self-control and it wouldn’t affect her, but as Arkenon’s warm, spicy scent became stronger and stronger, all she wanted to do was roll around in it…and on him. So much for her super self-control. Her policy of lying to everyone, including herself, was once again coming back to bite her in the ass.

“Hmm, yeah…cold. I am a little cold now that you mention it,” she answered, unable to stop the shiver that rolled down her body and settled firmly in her now-very-wet pussy.

“You can lie to us both, little one, but I can smell your desire,” he answered with a throaty low laugh. “If I were to run my hand up your thigh right now under this beautiful dress, I know I would find your pretty little pussy dripping with honey just for me.”

Sally’s legs almost buckled as she imagined him doing just that and then pushing her up against the elevator wall and fucking her hard and fast. She knew that when the doors opened and Benic stood there taking in the scene before him that she hadn’t come anywhere close to masking the look of desire on her face. Damn it! She needed to come so badly Sally was starting to shake with the lust that was overtaking her. She assumed that this overwhelming feeling could only mean that Arkenon was cheating and using his Sirotian pheromone mumbo jumbo on her, freaking cheater. But as she turned her head and saw his heavy-lidded look and felt his massive erection straining against her thigh, she thought that perhaps he was turned on enough that he’d forget their terms and just fuck her already. Might as well try, right? After all, he was still a man, and most of the men she had experience with would cut just about any corner when it came to getting a little action. Now it was time to see if she could give his self-control the little shove it needed.

“Why don’t you see for yourself then, sir?” Sally asked in a low, raspy tone as she widened her stance, inviting him to do just that.

She tried not to look away from Arkenon’s face as he slowly backed her out of the elevator and up against a wall in the foyer, but out of the corner of her eye, she could see Benic raise an eyebrow at her taunt, then smile and shake his head as he came closer to them.

Arkenon wasn’t surprised that Sally was trying to tempt him into losing control of the situation. It was a tactical move that he’d assumed she’d mastered throughout her previous relationship history with submissive males. But he couldn’t say that he didn’t have a stronger reaction than he’d expected, making him want to dominate her even more. He had a plan, however, and he was sticking to it, and it started with Sally not keeping any secrets from him.

He pushed her back against the wall and slowly pushed her arms up above her head as he held her wrists in one of his hands, which he could see made her pulse jump.

“Benic, please see that Sally’s arms stay right where they are,” Ark said as the younger man stepped up to place his hand on Sally’s wrists.

Then he took a half step back and smiled as he saw a conflicted set of emotions run over Sally’s face. Her breathing was even more erratic, and she struggled with herself to relax and let Benic bind her. Ark could tell that she’d never let anyone restrict her movement before during foreplay or sex. Her reaction was genuine, and the dominant male in him reveled in the battle she was going through. When eventually he saw her mild panic move from confusion into lust, he was satisfied to continue, and he stepped back up to her, running his hands lightly along the sides of her breasts as he gently kissed her neck.

Sally was so distracted by his mouth that she gasped when his fingers quickly released the back of her dress and the green silk went sliding down her body. He continued to let his fingertips slowly drag up and down the sides of her chest until she was writhing in Benic’s grip.

“Please! Please touch me,” Sally said in a low whisper full of desperation that she hated to admit.

“Touch you where, Sally?” Ark asked her as he still used his fingertips to skim over first her breasts, then down her belly, and along the tops of her thighs.

“You said you wanted to touch my pussy. That’s where I need you,” she said in a whisper that had Benic, who was now standing beside her, groaning softly.

Ark could only frown and shake his head at the younger man, who’d fallen exactly into the obvious trap Sally had set. He had no doubt that if it were just the two of them here that Benic would be enthusiastically pumping balls deep between her thighs right now, giving her anything she wanted. He’d have to get Galen to work on Benic’s self-control a little more firmly. Sally’s eyes were closed, she was biting her lip in frustration, and it was a beautiful thing to behold. Ark slowly trailed his finger down her stomach, and when he got to her pussy, he had to stifle a groan himself when he found her folds soaking wet and swollen. Slipping one finger gently through the slickness, he gave her one light pass, circling her plump clit, and then moved back to leave his hand resting on her mound, which had her squirming in Benic’s grip again.

“Arkenon, please!” she whimpered, trying to arch up into his hand.

“What happened at the end of our meal tonight that upset you, Sally?” Ark asked her as he lightly teased the pad of his finger along her drenched pussy.

When Sally stilled for a moment and frowned, he could tell she was trying to clear her head to figure out what he’d just asked her. When her face evened out again and she bit her lower lip and looked down at him, he knew what she was going to say.

“It was nothing. I’m fine. I just need you to touch me,” Sally answered, rubbing herself against him as much as she could.

“One more chance, love, will you trust me enough to tell me what changed your mood?” he pushed.

He saw the lust slowly back down in her eyes, and the determination and anger rose as she looked back at him.

“I said that I’m fine. I don’t need you to fix me, Guild Master. I only need you to fuck me. Isn’t that what you do?” she snapped back at him.

Arkenon gave her a sad look, which only seemed to fuel her anger further as she looked back at him and raised an eyebrow, daring him to ask her again.

“Wrong answer, love,” Ark sighed as he leaned back and rose to his feet. “Only trust gets rewarded here. Lies will leave you wanting.”

This is the 2nd book I’ve read from the Coalition Mates series and, I must say, Sarah didn’t fail to deliver the heat on this one either. Surrender contains acts of voyeurism, exhibitionism, spanking, anal and bondage play.

Also, she has sex scenes involving m/m, m/w, m/m/w, and m/m/m/w.

Sounds kinky, right?

Just wait until you read the chapter where Sally and Ark attend Galen’s get-together. Trust me folks, this is not a party where you’ll find couples yawning out of boredom. No, what you’ll read will have your temperature skyrocketing, legs clenching, and maybe you might even find yourself panting a little bit. 😉

Author Showcase/Review of “Common Grounds (A Destiny Romance)” – S.J. Maylee

*Common Grounds was originally published in the now unavailable Just Desserts Collection.
It has been re-released with extended scenes.*
Be Warned: light BDSM, public exhibition

While Kate Sanderson mixes batter and pumps buttercream inside her tasty creations at the West Egg restaurant, she dreams about two things: owning a bakery and finding a man capable of satisfying her every desire. Mark Larosa designs little masterpieces daily at his tiny barista station at the local Star Coffee and he tailors each drink to the customer. The only cup he can’t seem to get right is for the sassy baker, Kate. He’s determined to give her what she really wants.
When a new building goes up across the street, the pair trip over each other trying to grab the last unit before a chain restaurant claims their dream. To get what they crave, they might have to work together and find the elusive common ground.

“Mark! I was hoping you’d make it.” Sam crossed the room and barrel-hugged him.

“Sorry I’m late. I went to the club first.” He caught Kate’s gaze from across the room. The man looked more delicious than she remembered. His V-neck shirt hugged his upper body in a way that made her envious.

“Well, you’re here now, buddy. Come on in. Kate has a spread for us. You can take your pick.”

She coughed to hide her gasp and made her way out to the back patio. The evening had yet to cool, but she still shivered. Hiding was not how she intended to handle things. Facing him now after thinking about him all day wasn’t an option either.

The small wooden platform was normally her oasis except the muffled sounds of the party inside wouldn’t let her forget where she was. Their corner lot didn’t offer them privacy but they couldn’t argue with the location. They were in the center of everything. She turned around and found the cause of her troubles coming outside. Her gaze shot to ten different places, anywhere but him.

“Just the woman I was looking for.” He closed the door behind him and then crossed the deck in an easy stride.

“Excuse me.” She stepped to get around him. A quiver rolled through her belly. “I was just going back inside.”

“I’ve been searching for you all night.” He blocked her path. “I’d hoped to find you at the club tonight.”

“Why?” He probably wanted a repeat performance. Her thoughts filled with all the naughty things he could do if he came closer. She shook her head. No way was she letting this guy near her again. Falling fast and getting her heart stomped was not on her to-do list.

“I wanted to apologize.” The low tone of his voice sank deep into her senses.

“That’s unnecessary. Not everyone can make a good cup of coffee.” She gazed into his deep blue eyes. Her pussy warmed at the sight of him. She shuffled back until she reached the railing, needing to keep her thoughts clear and her heart away from becoming easy pickings.

“What?” He stepped in next to her, clearly not deterred.

“I hope you have other skills because I don’t think you have a future in coffee.” She grabbed hold of the patio ledge. The lie sounded catty, but she hoped it would do the trick and cement a wall between them.

“I see.” He looked her up and down. “You’re one of those girls.”

She flipped her hair over her shoulder. “If you mean smart enough to stay away from players like you, then yes, I am one of those girls.” She put her hands on her hips.

He removed all the space between them. His thigh brushed hers. “Well, I tried one of your croissants today.”

“And?” She sucked on her bottom lip and pressed out her breasts.

“It was okay.” He leaned over her. His lips were within reach.

“What? That’s ludicrous. My baking is far from just okay.” She took a step forward, intending to put distance between them. He didn’t let her get away. When her body met his warm strength, she melted and moaned from somewhere deep within.

“I’ll tell you what’s ludicrous.” He grabbed her ass. “All the effort it’s taking you to deny what you feel when you see me.” The tone of his voice chipped away at the last of her reserve.

“That’s crap.” She pushed on his chest and got nowhere. “You didn’t even want to talk to me at your coffee house.”

“That’s not true. It doesn’t count if you didn’t want to be recognized.” He tapped the end of her nose.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” She swatted at his hand.

“I have an idea.”

“I can hardly wait to hear it.” She grabbed the ledge on either side of her.

“How about you leave all the fancy baking behind and stick with something simple, like a donut?”

“Is that so?”

“It is. You disagree?” He brought his lips close to hers.

“Donuts require finesse, actually. A trait I manage skillfully. I’ll tell you what.” She licked her lips. “I’ll make you one of my cronuts. Do you even know what that is?” She couldn’t remember ever letting a guy get her this worked up. Just the thought of him standing in her kitchen had goosebumps dancing up her back.

“I do. It’s some kind of croissant-doughnut.” He inched closer, removing all the space between them.

“It’s fried decadence that will blow your mind.” The heat building inside cracked through her barriers. She raised her leg and pressed her pussy along his hard cock.

“Is that an invitation?” He took a deep breath and rocked against her.

“To eat? Absolutely.” She licked her bottom lip.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Mark stated that he was a different kind of Dom and his actions reflected the declaration. Case in point: Kate wasn’t collared at the club but he still asked permission to taste her aka kiss her. You could view this as sweet or you could view it as uncharacteristic behavior of a dominant male. Maybe he was attempting to be a gentlemen. If that was the case, then I vote for sweet.

However, he asked permission again later on in another scene so maybe he needs to work on staying true to a Dom’s role. Oh, I think it’s important to note Kate pointed out his lack of Dom behavior in a conversation as well.

As for the bom chicka wah wah moments, Mark and Kate did get it on several times in the work place. Together and solo. All I can say is he better have washed up first before returning to his Barista duties and she better have sanitized her kitchen. 🙂

In all seriousness, any scene with them was explosive. For a short story, I think you’ll like the creativity S.J. was able to pull off without the scenes seeing flat or unfinished.

‘Hello? Is anyone here?’

A low voice rumbled down the hallway, and her chest tightened. It was a man, but she didn’t recognise the voice. For a moment, she considered remaining quiet, but she licked her lips and made herself step forward. She was overreacting. If she wasn’t, there was an emergency call button hidden under the lip of her desktop. Security could be here in less than a minute if she needed them.

She returned to the lobby and scanned the area. Her gaze came to a screeching halt when it landed on the man who was already looking in her direction.

Oh. Wow.

Her wariness didn’t decrease, but a different kind of awareness flooded her. ‘Hello?’ she said huskily.

Somehow he’d known she was there, yet he seemed taken aback. His weight slowly rocked back from the balls of his feet, and his eyes narrowed. They were blue eyes. Startling blue. ‘Good evening.’

She wasn’t overreacting. The guy had danger written all over him, in that good-girls-beware sort of way. Tall and strapping, he had closely cropped dark hair and a rough-and-tumble aura that didn’t go with the tuxedo he was wearing. That wasn’t to say he didn’t look good. He looked damn good. The combination was powerful, and it hit her first in her belly and next in her knees.

Sex appeal oozed from him.

Which, of course, meant he was here for an escort.

His gaze was running over her just as alertly as she’d evaluated him, so Rielle quickly put herself behind her desk. She tucked her barrette behind her phone and fought the urge to run her fingers through her hair. ‘I’m sorry, but we’re closed.’

He cocked his head. ‘The door was open.’

And that had been a mistake.

‘Did you have an appointment?’ She knew very well he didn’t.

‘No.’ Her question had been sharp, but his blue gaze didn’t flinch. Instead, the lines of his face softened, and she had to lock her knees to keep them from melting. ‘But I’m in a bind. I was hoping you could help me out.’

She lifted an eyebrow. The man might be putting out pheromones by the bucketful, but her brain was still functioning – admittedly better on some levels than others – and she’d begun to sense danger of another sort. The entrapment sort. Luxxor was not a company that took walk-ins. ‘For whom are you looking?’

He walked closer to the desk, and she instinctively gripped its edge. The way he moved, all silent and stealthy. The expensive carpeting absorbed the noise most people made, but the air didn’t even stir at his approach. Her fingers edged closer to the silent alarm, but she didn’t push it.

Not yet.

‘I’m looking for Luxxor Limited. I know I’m late, but I need an escort for the evening.’

Her guard stayed up. She knew they were alone in the office – she was acutely aware of the fact – but her company’s clients knew better than to go spouting off so casually about Luxxor’s line of work. They signed nondisclosure agreements to ensure it. If he was wearing a wire, she wanted to make everything perfectly clear. ‘You need someone to attend an event with you tonight?’

‘Actually, I need someone right now.’

She shook her head. Luxxor went to extremes to satisfy its clients. She’d blush if she thought about how far some escorts went, but there was no way she could accommodate his request. The employees they had working tonight already had their assignments. Even if she did contact someone, the timing was impossible.

And for some reason, that relieved her. ‘I’m sorry, but we don’t have anyone available on such short notice, Mr . . . I don’t believe I caught your name.’

‘Because I didn’t give it.’ He slid his hands into his pockets. The tuxedo looked good on him, but it was failing badly at taming him. Especially when he winked. ‘Tell me yours, and I’ll tell you mine.’

First, I want to state that I hadn’t read the rest of the series when I was asked to review book three, Courting Danger. The only time this became an issue was when the name “Eddie” was dropped out of nowhere. I wondered if he was a key person in the other books. However, Kimberly clued us in on who Eddie was and the past he shared with Rielle so have no fear you’ll be lost or confused for more than a few pages, at most.

With that said…..

If I was basing my review on this being classified as a mystery, I’d say it fell flat.

If I was critiquing this as a romance/suspense book, then I would say it had that in spades.

My only snafu comment about the romance aspects of this tale is this….. Mel aka Darien came to the office seeking an escort to a White House event. Rielle, not an escort, agrees to go with him (with much reluctance) even though she’s not an escort and she doesn’t believe his name is Mel or that he’s really an accountant. At the event, the jig is up. However, she still decides to have unprotected sex with him multiple times. Heck, through the entire book, they never once spoke about protection, partners, STD’s, possible pregnancies. NADA!! I guess a hot bod and great sex makes you forget all those details. As a reader, not so much.

I will say, despite those factors, the sex scenes were sizzlin.

When it came time to decide on a score, I thought about the lack of mystery and the bedroom blunders. I almost gave this story a 3 but I simply couldn’t because Kimberly had Rielle kicking butt ….. literally!!

You just have to love a woman who can handle herself!!

Author Showcase / Interview and Review of “VIP Room Service (Other Related Duties Book 1) – Zenobia Renquist

She offers satisfaction above and beyond what is requested.

Lexie’s job as a maid at a five-star hotel doesn’t normally include the unique and risqué form of room service that rich guest Mr. Malena has requested, nor the generous tip he’s offered. Submission and exhibition and a menage. Lexie can’t resist. What should have been a one-time thing turns into an introduction into the sensual world of customer satisfaction. This is one workplace encounter that could get her fired…or will it?

Lexie backed up a step.
“Now, now. Don’t be frightened. Nothing untoward. I promise.”
She snorted. “What exactly is your definition of untoward? I just rode a bottle for your wanking pleasure.”
“That’s all part of wine service. As is what comes next.”
“Next?”
“I didn’t bring it up last night because of how skittish you were, but there is more to it than stuffing that beautiful pussy of yours with a five-hundred-dollar bottle of Chardonnay.”
“Five hun—” She choked on the word. She’d been riding a bottle of Chardonnay that cost five hundred dollars. True, she knew nothing about wines or why one cost more than another—beyond age—but hadn’t known a single bottle could cost five hundred dollars.
“Yes. In honor of you and your first night. I thought it appropriate a five-hundred-dollar woman should ride a five-hundred-dollar bottle.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “Does it get you hot to think about it?”
“You’re insane.” She laughed. “You’re also joking.”
“I’m not. Call Franceska if you don’t believe me.” He gestured to the phone.
She looked at the bottle and then at him. “Five hundred dollars?”
“Yes.”
“Wow.” She’d never had anything that pricey between her legs. Her most expensive toy had barely broken the two hundred mark, and here she’d used a five-hundred-dollar bottle of Chardonnay to get off. “So what else is there? Sex, right?”
“If you want, but not what I had in mind right this instance.” He chuckled. “I’m not as spry as I used to be. I need a little more time to regain my stamina.”
“You look plenty spry to me.” She eyed his semi-erect dick. It hadn’t gone limp after he came. A few well-placed licks would probably have it hard again in an instant.
“Bless you, dear girl. You are good for my ego.” He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the back. “Now then. After riding the bottle comes drinking the wine.”
“I’m on the clock.”
“Not you. Me. And a little shouldn’t hurt your performance.” He gazed into her eyes. “Unless you’re a lightweight.”
“No, but I don’t want someone to smell alcohol on my breath either.”
“True. True. But you won’t be drinking.”
“So why do you need me?”
He kissed her hand again and ran his tongue up to her wrist. “You’re my glass.”

I’ve used a variety of toys/objects during intercourse to heighten the sexual experience but I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, I’ve never thought of using a wine bottle before. Furthermore, I don’t think I’ll be able to look at one the same way again. Will I unleash my naughty side and use one now? Hmmm, I never say never to anything. *winks*

1. Welcome, Zenobia Renquist. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Zenobia) I am a military brat turned military wife (Air Force) and I’ve lived in Europe, Japan, and several states in the United States. I’m currently in Maryland with my hubby and my two cats. No kids yet but they are in the future.

I started writing as a way to entertain myself during a time in my life when making friends seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I later realized, with the help of the few friends I did
manage to make, that people found my stories entertaining.  I decided to finish a story and submit it to agents before coming across Samhain Publishing, who put out my debut novel Adrienne by my alter-ego D. Renee Bagby.

2.  Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(ZenobiaI let my characters have their way. Usually I become blocked for one of two reasons. #1 is real life stress—house issues, health issues, etc. I have to resolve those to alleviate the distraction that is blocking my writing. #2 is trying to make my characters do something they don’t like. The second I let them have their way, the words flow. I’ve learned to just write what they tell me regardless of what I wanted the story to do.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

(ZenobiaMy free time is spent crocheting. I’m currently working on this Crochet Lattice Wrap <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpJZ4bwk9uU>, which is supposed to be done in worsted weight yarn (the size you normally see by Red Heart) but I’m doing in size 10 crochet thread. In other words, it’s taking me a long time to get it to the length I want.
I also binge anime. Why wait for the next episode when I can hold off until the show ends and watch them in one long run? I’m a fan of Shoujo manga as well as Yaoi/Boy’s Love (BL) manga.

4. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(ZenobiaEveryone knows I write and what I write…if they are paying attention. I don’t hide it and tell anyone who asks. If they hold still long enough, I give them a card. My father, his wife, and my paternal grandmother all read my books and enjoy them. It weirds me out thinking about my dad reading the hotter stuff I’ve written, but I’m glad he enjoys it…I think.

5. Will you share with us your all-time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(ZenobiaTop ten, huh? Stephanie Burke, Monica Burns, Kresley Cole, Pamela Palmer, Kate Douglas, Jennifer Ashley, Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick, Johanna Lindsey, Julie Garwood, and Jude Deveraux.

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?

(ZenobiaI would love to see Eris by my alter-ego go to the big screen. I wrote Lucien, one of the heroes, with Luke Goss in mind. So hot. The other roles are a toss up and I’m not picky. So long as Lucien is Luke Goss, I’m happy.

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear it’ll go no further.

(ZenobiaI’m actually between books and trying to figure out what to write next. It’s not that I don’t have ideas. I have tons. I’m just trying to pick one from the crowd of ideas yelling “Pick me! Pick me!” It’s kind of hard. I want to write them all. I need clones.

8. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular reading order?

(ZenobiaYou can find info about all my stories at http://zenobiarenquist.com and there is a reading order for series titles on my bookshelf http://zenobiarenquist.com/bookshelf

Author Showcase / Interview and Review of “Their Lady Gloriana” – Starla Kaye

Welcome, Starla Kaye!!

1. For those who might not be familiar with you, would you be a dear and tell the readers a little about yourself? How did you get your start in the writing business?

(Starla) I love life, observing relationships, and dreaming up romantic stories. I’m a Happily-Ever-After kind of person, so that’s how my stories end up. Actually, I didn’t grow up reading romances and read my first one around the time I decided to try my hand at writing books. The genre was, and is, perfect for me. So I’ve been penning romances for around twenty years, publishing my first one in 1999.

2.  Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, please share how you handle it.

(Starla) I don’t often get “writer’s block,” and I feel fortunate for that. I write several books at the same time, for different publishers. When I get momentarily uncertain how I (or my characters) want to go next, I shift to another story. As the epiphany comes for my problem, I shift back to that story.

3. Contrary to what some people envision about a romance writer’s life, it’s not all glitz and glam. Well not for the majority of us. With that bubble sadly busted, when you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?

(Starla) It’s not all glitz and glam? That’s why I got into being a writer. Okay, just kidding. I write not for the glory, but because I enjoy my work. When I’m not writing, I love to travel, which I do nearly every month for a couple of weeks. My laptop travels with, of course, because my characters have trouble giving me a free moment. I also make small art quilts that I design from pictures of places I’ve been. And I teach writing classes to senior adults. I really enjoy my students and we share so much. I’m constantly learning from them.

4. I know many writers, such as myself, keep their pastime/career a secret. Do those close to you know you write? If so, what are their thoughts?

(Starla) Since I’ve been publishing for sixteen years, the secret is out. At first I was worried about it affecting my husband’s work as a CPA, firm owner. But I’ve always been honest when someone asks me what I write. I write romance, period. They can accept that or not, which is their problem and not mine. Fortunately I’ve run into very few people who look uncomfortable with what I write. And my husband delights in telling his clients or anyone else that he is my muse. Whatever. If it makes him happy to say that or that he’s the model for my heroes…Well, we all laugh about it.

5. Will you share with us your all time favorite authors? If you’re like me, it’s a long list so give us your top ten.

(Starla) There are so many wonderful authors, but I do have some favorites that I buy every book they write. My list includes Robyn Carr, Janet Chapman, Molly Harper, Sandra Hill, Katie MacAlister, Susan Mallery, Lynsay Sands, Gena Showalter, RaeAnne Thayne, and Susan Wiggs.

6. If you could choose one book to go to the big screen, yours or otherwise, which book would you choose and whom would you love to see cast in the parts?

(Starla) If I wanted one of my books to go to the big screen, I’d have to say FOR RUBY’S LOVE. I would have to expand the story more, maybe start with its prequel THE CEO AND THE COWBOY. I can easily picture Barry Van Dyke (in his slightly younger days) as my CEO, Daniel. For my cowboy, Calhoun Cordell, I’d pick Alex O’Loughlin (from Hawaii Five-o). And I would like Amy Adams for Kendra.

7. Would you care to tell us what you’re working on now? That is if it’s not top-secret information. If so, just whisper it in my ear. I swear, it’ll go no further.

(Starla) I’m working on two projects, very different ones. FOR THE LOVE OF ROWAN is a medieval romance and the sequel to THEIR LADY GLORIANA. I’ve wanted to write a special story for the second hero, Rowan, ever since I published TLG and have finally gotten to it. I’m also working on another story for Decadent Publishing’s 1-Night Stand series. SO NOT A WHITE KNIGHT isn’t a sequel to COWBOY DREAMIN’, but it has the characters from that story making a reappearance.

8. Where can we find your stories, and is there a particular reading order?

(Starla) I’ve published 20 novels, 38 novellas, 18 short stories, and 8 anthologies. There really isn’t a particular reading order, except for my two other medieval romances. MAGGIE MINE was the first one, and THE GREAT SCOTTISH DEVIL is the sequel. My complete book list is on my website starlakaye.com. All of my Starla Kaye books are on my Amazon Author Page. I also have books at Amazon under my other pen names: S.K. Fero and Skylar Faye.

9. Would you please share how your present and future fans can contact you?

(Starla) My contact information includes: Email to starla@starlakaye.com; Twitter @starla_kaye; and Facebook StarlaKayeWriter

10. Before we conclude this enlightening interview, do you have anything else you’d like to share? The stage is all yours.

(Starla) I’d just like to thank you for letting be here and thank my readers, current ones and new ones. As I said earlier, I write because I love to. And because I’m practically haunted by so many characters impatiently waiting for their stories be told. Happy reading!

Thank you again, Starla, for taking time out of your busy schedule to share more about yourself to all your fans – present and future ones. 🙂

Speaking of fans, ladies and gents don’t run off quite yet. It’s time I share my opinion of Their Lady Gloriana. Please continue reading and don’t forget to drop us a line – questions or comments are always appreciated. Heck, we are happy to receive a simple HOWDY.

In medieval times honorable men had to do what was required of them by the kings to whom they were loyal…

Thomas Lancaster, a widower with bad memories of marriage and a young son he barely knew was a hardened knight loyal to his king. In reward for his efforts fighting in the Crusades, King Edward gave him Middlemound Castle to hold for the crown. But the king decreed that he must marry the beautiful young widow of the castle’s previous lord.

Lady Gloriana Stewart had suffered brutally in her first marriage and had no desire to marry again. Yet she had no choice. She had to protect her people and obey her king.

All she wanted was for her new husband to give her a baby.
Having already lost one wife in childbirth, Thomas refused to even consider it.

Sir Rowan Montgomery, Thomas’s first knight, friend, and lover complicated the situation even more. Thomas didn’t want to give up Rowan and Gloriana didn’t want to admit she had feelings for her husband and for Rowan.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Man, the people in medieval times were a naughty, randy bunch. Starla wrote many scenes involving intercourse between two males, man/woman, and a couple threesomes. There were acts of voyeurism which I know will be a crowd pleaser. And for those who enjoy anal play, oh yeah this historic tale had plenty of that too. *winks*

My only negative comments, small ones, were these….. when Thomas started coughing, I thought more would’ve became of it. However, he got over the sickness without any drama. When, Rowan was injured, I expected “more” to develop there as well.

Heck, I was looking forward to some epic battle.

 Oh well.

If you start this book with the knowledge you won’t have any major “Holy Fuck” moments and simply a whole lot of fuckery going on, then you will love this book.

As most of my readers/followers love a good romp in the hay, I think you’ll be pleased by this historical tale.

Give it a shot, my lovely ones.
