Two schools: One of magic and science, the other focused on military excellence. A dangerous undercurrent flows within both…dark and deadly.
Everson is brilliant, ingenious, and yet, he feels broken. Cursed with a disability, he dreams of nothing more than being useful. Quinn is bold, defiant, and will do anything to protect her brother. When Everson is accepted to an academy of magic and engineering, Quinn enters a school of combat in order to join him in Fallbrandt. However, things within the fabled institutions are not what they seem. Beneath a mantra of good intentions and the objective of a better future, spies and conspiracies lurk.
Quinn finds herself embroiled in a struggle she doesn’t understand, one that has dire consequences as her training shifts from difficult to deadly. Her relentless determination and will to survive might be enough, if she only knew whom she could trust.
Within the other school, Everson learns about a dangerous power known as Chaos. Unable to wield this magic, he instead focuses on melding Chaos with science, dreaming of inventions that would shape the future. Perceptive, imaginative, and curious, his endeavors lead him to a discovery that could change the world…and then he discovers the truth.

Brilliant read. Brother and sister join an academy, both schools linked . One for engineering and one warrior. Both have an interesting journey that culminates in an exciting climax that hints at further wondrous adventures.
Full of magic, mayhem but all in all it’s an enthralling read.
Highly recommended.

Honestly, I’ve never read a book by you before but it looks promising.
All of Jeffrey’s works are entertaining and worth reading. Good luck!
I’m glad you’re interested! I’m not surprised you haven’t hear of me since my first book just released two years ago. Here is some background info:
My books tend to have a coming of age/epic fantasy vibe, similar to The Belgariad by David Eddings or Codex Alera by Jim Butcher and my writing style is similar to Brandon Sanderson. With teen protagonists, fast pacing, and clean content, my books also fall into the YA/Fantasy genre. This book is the first in a new series, set in the same universe as my other books. It sets the table for an action adventure story featuring a special-force team similar to The Kingsman movies, but with magic replacing technology.
Do you do any book signings in or around Indiana?
Great question. Jeffrey?
(Thank you for visiting us and good luck!)
I live in California and don’t make it Indiana very often, but that may change in the future. Most of my signings/events are on the west coast but I have also done a few in the midwest (MN, IL). If you don’t win a signed copy, you can always buy one from my website http://www.JeffreyLKohanek.com.
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks.
Kam thanks for introducing us to some great authors
You’re most welcomed. Thanks for entering & good luck!
Thanks for being a great reader! We authors and our books would be pointless if not for you guys. It’s a symbiotic relationship.
Sounds like a great book. Is this ok for a preteen?
I wouldn’t have issue with my preteen reading it. Jeffrey, do you agree?
My while I write with teens/adults in mind, I keep the content CLEAN for an expanded audience. If you have a good reader in the 11-12 year range, my books would suit them well. They are similar in tone/content to the later Harry Potter books.
Hope I win.
I’m happy to see you’re interested in my book. Good luck!
Good luck!
My mom said I might like this book. I hope I win. Seen on my books and me
Good luck to you!
If you win and read the book, feel free to drop me an email. I’d love to hear what you think about it. Good Luck!
Renee said I could read this. I love the Harry Potter books. Hope I can win
The Harry Potter books are great and so is The Warden’s Purpose. Good luck!
What’s not to love about Harry Potter? Those books are popular for a good reason. I could only dream of my books being that popular one day. Good luck!
Thanks for the chance to win. Do you have other books for preteen?
My stories feature characters in their late teens, and they are written with teens and adults in mind. However, they are suitable for strong middle-grade readers as well.
The first series I wrote, Runes of Issalia, features a teen who is the victim of a prejudicial society. Under a false identity, he enters a school of magic only to discover a long forgotten magic. The return of that magic is core to a larger plot that takes place in books 2 and 3 of the trilogy, when world-changing events take place. A Warden’s Purpose follows that series, but begins 18 years later, and the world of Issalia is quite different as a result of upheaval that occurs in the first series.
I also have a stand-alone novel titled Rogue Legacy, which is set in the same universe but takes place 400 years earlier. The story centers around a girl who affects many key historic moments (like Forrest Gump) and her transformation from rebellious teen to heroic adult.
All of the above are fun, action-packed, magic-laced, fantasy adventures.
Good luck and thank you for visiting us.
